Kaotic: Life Unleashed - The Aftermath...

Well yes...I real laugh at myself when I see dem pics I upload last night.
Combination of alcohol and tiredness yes! Anyhoo...the review.


So I got the venue just after 8:00pm and was please to see a sign clearly stating that parking for Kaotic was available in the Stadium car park. Parking was a breeze.
I was kinda taken aback at the number of cars I saw there and I said to myself "Wayssss...Kaotic get a good turnout!"
Then I remember that Trinis doh know the meaning of the word carpool and is probably one person per car.

The hubby and I then made our way to St. John's and was told at the gate that by around 9:00pm costumes would be on show. Cool.

But aye aye...amazingly enough it seemed as if Trinis did carpool for the event because upon reaching inside there was quite a good number of people there and I immediately started to feel a nice vibe. But like Carnival in the air boy.

Kaotic's crowd was a nice mix of people. Young, old and in between. Red, white and black and all the races of Trinidad were present and accounted for. By the way ladies, if the men who attended the launch last night going to be playing with the band...yuh eh have no worries if yuh understand what ah mean ;)

I got the opportunity to go backstage and meet Ricardo who told me that I could take pics, but the said to me not to worry, that the models were choreographed and one I was at the end of the runway, I would be good to go.

I took up position at the end of the runway right next to Mr. Butch Limchoy himself, and waited.

And at approximately 9:35pm...we have costumes!!!

Immediate response to seeing the costumes: Nice! Ooohhh!! Check out that one!! Eh heh...ah could see mehself in that!!

Viva La Vida
I like this colour combination and I like the headpiece.





Copia (Ko-pee-ah, in case yuh having problems pronouncing it) - Female only
I personally do not like female only sections...ah mean who ah wining on when ah reach on stage...well on the "stage"...yuh know what ah mean!

Reminiscent of Silver Mist circa 2008, but overall a nice costume.



Hot Oil
Pretty costume, pretty run of the mill, can someone say Sun Goddess?
And help me to understand "Life Unleashed - Hot Oil" Sounds like possible domestic violence to me.






Beau Jolais
I eh know what it mean, but I LOVE this costume. The colour combination is nice and the frontline is WOW!



Heavenly Passion
Another costume with a frontline I love.





Extreme Fury
Just another red costume that's just okay to me. The working on the costume reminds me of Sonia Mack of two years ago...the name escapes me now.




Deja Vu
I have never played in a purple costume, but if I were to, this would be one I would choose.
The beads between the legs though...I see my stocking shearing.



Mystical Freedom
A black costume that for me, is just missing something. The frontline is okay though.





Aqua Abyss
I LOVE a blue costume and this one is no exception. Lovely.
Ah still seeing stockings shearing with them beads on the side though.





Horizon
This costume is okay. Not in love with it, but I don't hate it.
I like the beads used on the bra.




Romance
In my opinion, this was the worst of the lot. Especially the frontline. The wings were so stiff that the model didn't even bother to walk down the runway a second time.




Emerald Viper
A lovely green costume. And green is not one of my favorite colours. I also like the headpiece, which have a kinda something something to the Cabaret headpiece the Elements previewed last week.


I left the launch, shortly after the costumes were shown and collected a book with all of the costumes in them, although some are missing the frontlines.

Ricardo told me that the backline costumes are all $3000 and under, with the frontlines being around $4000. So start putting aside your money people.

I have LOTS more pics with closeups of bras, leg pieces etc which I will upload later today and update the blog accordingly.

The men costumes are REALLY nice, not the typical men costumes, save for the board shorts, and the neck and chest pieces look very nice and show that at least SOME thought went into the men costumes.

Overall Kaotic's presentation gets a 7.5 out of 10.

Elements Media Event - The Aftermath

Thanks to Saucy who invited me to be present at Elements Media Event on Wednesday evening at the Royal Princess Casino in Movietowne. I must say that the setting for the launch of Casino Royale was well picked and suited the theme PERFECTLY. One can only hope that their launch at Pier 1 on the 8^th of August will be similarly designed to suit.

Anyhoo…the presentation carded to start PROMPTLY at 5:30pm, started in typical Trini style at 6:00pm.

Mr. Colin Mitchell, Managing Director welcomed the media and sponsors, correction “soon to be sponsors” present and thanked us all for coming. He re-introduce the Elements team including Douglas John, Amanda Jardine, Gisel Laughlin and Charlene Lum Wai (LOVE the shoes!) to name a few.

Colin, in his speech spoke about "every creed and race finding an equal place" in Elements and once you can have fun you're welcome to the band which sounds all nice I suppose, until you looked around and noticed the melanin-challenged persons who make up the committee. Even Mummy Chic, who accompanied me commented on it.

We were then treated to a viewing of two of the costumes Cabaret (green and gold, designed by Charlene Lum Wai) and Jubilee (fushia pink and ornage, designed by Douglas John).

My immediate impression of the costumes was…Ooooo…nice!

JUBILEE

With Jubilee I liked the idea of the beads falling from the neck, but did not like the feathers on the butt.

Feathers on the bumsee + Level Winery = A definite no no for Afro Chic.

But it does go with the whole Las Vegas showgirl theme. I like how the headpiece frames the face, but am not in love with the feather boa part of it.

CABARET

I like the corset option for Cabaret, which is not just some spandex stitched together, but comes complete with the ‘bone’ stitched in as well.

The young lady modeling the costume every so often kept pulling the top of the corset, which just sent off alarm bells for me.

Corset with no support + Jumping up on the road all day = Girls Gone Wild: Trini Style

I am in love with the Cabaret headpiece, (which reminded me of headpieces by Evolution of this year) but not liking the bumsee piece, which just kinda bleh and will hide my lovely thong encased butt come Carnival Monday and Tuesday.

Following the presentation, we were treated to some delicious appetizers and Saucy and I had the opportunity to ask the models how things were connected and hooked up. Shortly after this, I left the media event.

Yes I'm Alive...

I've just been tres busy with the new job and all.

Job Update:
Working hard and late at times, but enjoying it.

House Update:
The plumbing work is finished! With the exception of my purchasing a pump and waterheater...which means I can move back into my home!
The house still upside down, but I could live with that. I am DYING to get back into my own space!

I have some house purchases to make namely, a new fridge and stove for the kitchen, as my existing stuff making my new cupboards look real bleh.
Also I plan to buy a new dining set, and I'm looking to purchase the one I saw at Signature Collection.

There are still lots of finishing touches that need to take place like my backsplash in the kitchen and some cupboards to be built in my spare room for storage. But at least my house is liveable now. :)

Hair Update:
I'm still blonde. At least for the moment :)

Boots Update:
Beleive it or not, I've already started getting requests for boots for the Carnival 2009 season! Wow.

Salybia Nature Resort and Day Spa - The Aftermath...

On Saturday morning my coworkers and I went to Salybia Nature Resort and Day Spa for the day. We try every quarter, to go somewhere and just celebrate ourselves.

We were all looking forward to Salybia and were pleased with the surroundings which were simply breathtaking.

We got there at 10:00am and checked in, got our wrist bands and asked about getting some “cutters/snacks”. The lady at the reception desk told us that breakfast was served up to 10:00am, but we could order food form the bar menu.

Upon visiting the bar and enquiring about getting a bite to eat and were told that they were having problems with water, but they would check and see of we could “get anything”. When they came back they told us that they would not be able to give us any food until lunch time which was at 12:30pm. :
Errr...No water? No snacks?

Strike One.

I also wanted to get my eyebrows waxed so I asked the lady at the reception desk if I could make an appointment to get this done. She said no problem and picked up the phone to find out what time I could be accommodated. When she came off the phone I was told that "because of the long weekend they were unable to get any wax in" so they would not be able to wax my eyebrows for me. :
Err…no wax? At a spa?!?

Strike Two.

We made our way down to the beautiful pool area to a gazebo, which was littered with beer bottles and some tins (can we say Strike Three?) that we kicked out of the way and pulled up some lounge chairs and settled in.

After snacking on the few snacks that we brought along (nuts, chips, Skittles), we read the newspapers, took some pics and just relaxed.

A bit later we purchased some lollies from the bar area by the pool, which were going down pretty well until one of us checked the expiry date on the lollies, and saw that they expired earlier in the month! We showed the bartender who simply shrugged his shoulders and said okay. (What comes after Strike Three again??)

Despite all of these drawbacks, the breeze was cool, the view was spectacular, so I
settled in and was determined to enjoy my day.

My coworkers surprised me with a gift presentation as this was going to be my last week in the office. We talked, slept and when it was lunch time, made our way to the dining area.

Lunch was good, very tasty, but the dessert was just okay. We left Salybia just after two o’ clock (our driver picked us up on time) and made our way back home.

The drive back was really nice as the driver played some nice 80s music which went down well post-lunch and made for a nice nap.

All in all I had a great relaxing day, but I would be hesitant to return to Salybia again in the future.
