Two random things I just remembered…

And they can be added to my 10 things about me list.

1. I got knocked down by a car once.
I was holding my first born who was 6 months old at the time.
The driver didn’t see me because he was busy talking to the people in the backseat.
I saw him coming at me and couldn’t move out of the way in time.
So I turned my body away from the car while hugging my baby on me.
I hugged his head and held him close to my body.
When the car hit me I fell to the ground and ended up with some cuts and bruises.
Nothing happened to my baby though.

2. When I was about 7 months pregnant with my first born, I got locked in the bathroom stall at work.
The lock on the stall had been giving trouble for several weeks and we had told them about it but no one took us on.
I used to avoid going into it.
But this particular day, I had to pee really badly and it was the only stall available.
So I got in, peed, and could not get back out.
While I’m not claustrophobic, I don’t particularly like being in small places.
No one else was in the stall and this was in the days before every Tom, Dick and Harry had a cellphone with them at all times, so no one knew I was locked in.
I took some tissue, wiped the floor just inside the door and the floor just outside and slid under.
Then I washed my hands and went and reported the locked stall to the supervisor.

No stories about my second son because I was more careful then. LOL.

Small update...

As some of you may know, when it comes to Carnival I take my feteing and partying VERY seriously.

I am the one who organises the where we going? who playing in dat? how much fuh tickets? etc. And most times when people cannot find tickets or tickets have been sold out or just decide last minute where they want to go, I am the one they call.

So to this end, for Carnival 2008, I WILL be the one to call esp for those last minute feters.
Working on the blog layout now...so stay tuned for more info on that.

Also in the works is FAB!Carnival Boots by Afro Chic...
Working on a business plan as we speak/type... :D

Is natural hair back in style?

This was the question posed to me by a woman last Friday.

I was minding my own business as per usual, on my way to a meeting and this woman stops me to ask, "Is natural hair back in style or something?"

The look on my face probably said it all, cause she quickly added, "because you're the third person today who I've noticed with their hair natural and it looks so nice. One was in a ponytail and one was like yours (mine was in my usual for work, a huge afro puff)."

She then went on to explain to me that her hair is natural as well (she had in braids) and she just didn't know how to wear her hair or what to do with it, as it was thicker when she was younger and now it's a lot finer etc etc etc.
Being the ever gracious Afro Chic that I am (LOL), I told her that for me going natural wasn't about style and was more about just getting rid of my relaxer and spending money to go do my hair every 6 weeks.

I told her also that there are lots of resources on the internet that she could go to and get lots of information on what to do with her hair. I suggested the only two I could remember off the top of my head Motown Girl (which helped me out a LOT in the earlies and even now) and AfroBella.
The woman seemed extremely grateful to have her question answered and kept gazing at mine and telling me how beautiful it looked.
I finally had to excuse myself cause he was going to make me late for my meeting.

Let's wait and see...

I love reading blogs about people's experiences with their natural hair.

It's especially helpful on days like today when I feel like cutting off my hair. Yes again.

The last time I cut off all my hair (big chop #I've lost ocunt) was in October last year.

Since last colouring it about 3 weekends ago, I've decided to give it a rest from the colour for a while.

My hair's texture is just not feeling right somehow these days, and I think it's because of the colouring.

So I'll give it a rest and wait and see.

Some hair blogs I discovered recently:

Do you see the resemblance?

Well? Do you?

So Angela dons a wig and apparently she looks like me.
Or is it that I look like her?
Whatever. LOL.

Mummy I want hair like that!!

This morning I was minding my own business (as usual) when this little girl (I would guesstimate her age to be 6 or 7) with a very very low hair cut walks by with her mummy.

She stops and points at me and says, "Mummy I want hair like that!!" and smiles at me.

Her mummy looks a tad embarassed and hurriedly pulls her daughter and they continue on their way.

Incidents like that make me smile.

I'm beading again...

Insipired by the new uniforms we'll be using from June (and the immense heat which had me feeling like I did not want to move from in front the fan), I did some bead work on Saturday during the Heroes marathon on Sci-Fi.

This is a hematite and crytal set I did with one of my co-workers in mind.
It goes well with the charcoal grey uniform.
This one looks FAB! with my Inky (bluey/purply colour) uniform.

This was a watch that I had done sometime late last year. I liked it but didn't love it.

So I re-worked it into this. I just have to link the to ends together and the watch will be complete.

10 things about me...

1. I'm very passionate about my hair. And I only came to this realisation recently.
I get really upset/angry/vex when people suggest/imply/insinuate negative things about my hair.
Yes...my hair is natural.
Yes..I have an afro.
No...I will probably never use relaxer in life again. Ever.
Yes...this is how I'm keeping it.
Yes...red is it's natural colour. Would you like to see my pubes?

2. I'm married. With kids. Two boys.

3. I LOVE Carnival.
I love playing mas, going to fetes...everything about it except for the high prices.

4. I can often be found atop my husband's neck in a fete. I kid you not.

5. I have an almost photgraphic memory.
I remember some weird shit and then there are things that I don't remember at all.

6. I have mild self-diagnosed OCD.
The labels of bottles/tubes/tins etc must always face front.
The clothes in my wardrobe are hung by colour, then by sleeve length.

7. I have no pets. Not even a fish.
Even though when I was growing up we had 2 Dobermans, a canary, 7 cats (over a number of years) and an aquarium.

8. My internet alter ego's name is Inirt Lavinrac.

9. I dislike myspace, Hi 5, Facebook and the like, but I'm seriously addicted to Triniscene.

10. My family does not know about my blogs. Or my aliases.

My hair is falling out!

That's my hair after 5 weeks of Afro Kinky braid. That's what was left in the comb after I shampooed and conditioned my hair this weekend.

I can't believe I actually still have hair on my head.
But I do.

You will notice however, the big gap by my temples, which I credit to the weight of the braids on my already weak hairline.
*sigh* The saga continues...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!!!

The last time I had a birthday party was for my 25th birthday and it was great (as expected).
I'm having a lime/party this year for my golden birthday (I'm 29 on the 29th) and expect it to be nothing short of FAB!

Cricket World Cup 2007: It's All Over...

At least the Trinidad leg of it is.

I'll miss waking up at 3:45am to leave my house at 4:45am to reach to the Volunteer Break Out Tent in King George IV Park.

I'll miss being stationed at the Stadium and escorting VIPs from the shuttle in the Stadium to the VIP entrance on Tragarete Road.

I'll miss being VIP4 on the radio and calling in the VIPs.

I met a lot of great people...and a couple of not so great ones...and even one or two that I knew from before.
All in all it was an experience like no other, and it was definitely a lot of fun.

I was definitely "in my element" as they say. LOL.
I'm now left with lots and lots of happy memories and two cds of over 500 pictures to show for it.

Now it's on to Super 8. GO WINDIES!!

Pics of the Oval

Shhh...
We were not supposed to take pictures of the Oval during our tour, but it was looking SO SWEET ah tief ah lil ting...

All the stands have been decked off and draped in the ICC Cricket World Cup banners, so no more BG/Scotiabank Stand, CARIB Stand, CLICO etc.

This is the view from the QPCC Members Stand.

Party Stand in the far right of this pic.
