ReThePublic: The Aftermath

Date: Saturday 22nd September 2007
Place: Little Carib Theater
Cost: $100 advance $150 at the door

Well for those of you who didn’t know, 3 Canal had a show for the Republic Day weekend called ReThePublic aka For The People and yours truly attended.

Is real years now I have been wanting to go to a 3 Canal show eh, but circumstances prevented me from doing so.
So this weekend I made up my mind that come hell or high water, I was going to the show.

Words cannot even begin to describe the wonderful intimacy of the venue or the vibe of the music.

While seating was provided it was hardly necessary, as quite a few people stood for the duration of the show as 3canal’s music propelled them to their feet

The show was opened by 4 year old Kayode Charles on the drum to “chase the jumbies” out of the place, yes I said 4 years old. The youngster was amazing.

Kayode made way for the cut and clear crew which is 3 Canal’s band, yes I said band. 3 Canal now has a band who will be accompanying them to WOMEX in Sevilla Spain.

After the band did a little intro, it was then that Wendell, Roger and Stanton graced the stage and opened up their set with Pure Vibes.

That definitely set the tone for the show and it was really pure vibes for the rest of the night. From I Believe to What a Feeling to The Borderline to Blue to Salt and everything in between, we were treated to song after song after song. Fifteen songs in all.

They ended the show to a standing ovation.
The show was noting less than fantastic.

Read more about 3 Canal and their adventure to WOMEX here.

Listen to some of their music here.

The polls are closed BUT...

Eric Jerome Dickey – The Aftermath

After going to the National Library early on Saturday morning and spending most of my morning there with my boys (I hadda remember to post bout dat yes) I came home and fell asleep.

Woke up dotish at 2:30 and found myself trying to remember what day it was that Mr. Dickey was supposed to be in West Mall.

Sleep finally left me and I remembered that he was going to be at West Mall TODAY!! (well Saturday nah). So I got up, had a shower, got dressed, threw the boys into the car and headed to the West.

Reach West Mall only to realise that I ent bring not ONE of the man books with me for him to sign. :S
So I purchased a book there (Thieves’ Paradise) and got in the line.

The line wasn’t too long, and as expected it was mainly ladies. Some came with what looked like all the Dickey books that they had ever purchased for the man to sign, real dog-eared up and cover falling off and ting eh!

I find that was a little excessive.

Anyhoo, I stood in line, and had mummy on stand by to take my picture with him. My turn reach and I go and sit next to him.

Convo went something like this:

EJD: Hey, so how are you today?

Me: I’m good.

EJD: So what’s your name?

Me: Afro Chic...A-f-r-o C-h-i-c.

EJD: That’s a nice name. *signs my book “For Afro Chic. Much love to you. EJerome D 09/14/07 Trinidad.*

Me: So how have you been enjoying your stay so far?

EJD: They’ve been working me to death man! LOL. *cute smile*

Me: *swoon* (HA! No I didn’t swoon)

Me: Okay. Is this your first visit to Trinidad?

EJD: Nah…I’ve been here before.

*he hands me back my signed book*

Me: Okay cool. Can I just have my mom take a picture of me with you?

EJD: No problem,

So he hugs me, smiles and poses for the picture. I smile.

And then my mom’s phone rings ans she answers it. :S
She tells the person to hold on and gets ready to take the picture.

And then the battery in my mom’s camera dies. :(

*sigh*

At least I got a pic of him when I sat down.

So I’ve met one of my favorite authors, now it’s just to meet James Patterson and John Grisham. :D

One of my favorite authors...

Eric Jerome Dickey is coming to Trinidad this weekend!

He'll be at Trincity Mall on Friday 14th Septemeber 2007 and West Mall on Saturday 15th September 2007, promoting two of his new novels "WAKING WITH ENEMIES" and "SLEEPING WITH STRANGERS ".
I can't remember when I first started reading his books... it may have been about 2-3 years ago.

I can't remember why/how I started reading his books...I may have bounced them up in the National Library (which you should check out and become a member of if you haven't already).

It also may have been in RIK and I saw his cute face watching me from the bookshelf.

Now that I think about it...I'm almost sure that's why I picked it up. Because he was staring at me from the shelf.

Anyhoo, picked it up and became hooked.

I did find that after a while his books did become a bit predictable though, or it could just be that I get accustomed to a writer's style after reading almost every book they have, as I did with John Grisham and James Patterson.

Nevertheless, I am still probably going to make the trek up to Trincity or down to West Mall to get a peep at the man who was looking at me from the bookshelf with his cute smile, to see if he's really that cute up close.
